Edgar F. Coney (S.P. 346)

The Navy retained the name carried by this vessel at the time of her acquisition.

Edgar F. Coney, a tug built in 1904 at Camden, N.J.,  by J. H. Dialogue & Sons, was chartered by the Navy, assigned the identification number S.P. 346, and commissioned on 22 September 1917.

Assigned to the Third Naval District and classified as a minesweeper, she was based on Tompkinsville, Staten Island, N.Y. and also performed various and sundry towing duties in that area until 1919. Edgar F. Coney was returned to her owner on 5 July 1919.
