Bessie H. Dantzler (S.P. 3158)

The Navy retained the name carried by this vessel at the time of her acquisition.

The sing;le-screw, wooden-hulled tug Bessie H. Dantzler, built in 1901 at Scranton, Miss., was delivered to the Navy on 14 September 1917 and purchased by the Navy outright on 24 July 1918 from the Pascagoula Towing Co., of Moss Point, Miss.; earmarked for service as a patrol vessel and given the identification number S.P. 3158, she was placed in service at the New Orleans (La.) Navy Yard on 19 August 1918.

Bessie H. Dantzler served as a yard craft at New Orleans until 9 September 1920 at which time she was loaned to the War Department. The Army returned Bessie H. Dantzler to the Navy on 14 November 1921. On 4 March 1922, she was sold to L. F. Alexander & Co., of New Orleans.

Ultimately, Bessie H. Dantzler was destroyed by fire in Lake Ponchartrain, Louisiana on 6 March 1926.
