Records of the Naval Technical Mission in Europe, 1945-1947

NOTE: THIS COLLECTION HAS BEEN TRANSFERRED TO THE NATIONAL ARCHIVES IN COLLEGE PARK, MARYLAND.

Scope and Content Note

The Naval Technical Mission in Europe was established 26 December 1944 to exploit German science and technology for the benefit of the Navy's technical bureaus and the Coordinator of Research and Development. Information was transmitted to Washington initially in a summary form by Letter Report. However, the bulk of the information collected was described in more detailed Technical Reports that were produced under less urgent conditions than the Letter Reports. The highest priority was given to data applicable in the war against Japan. The Mission was decommissioned on 1 November 1945.
