Title: Brig USS NIAGARA and Schooners USS TIGRESS and USS SCORPION Destroying British Schooner HMS NANCY and the Blockhouse at Nallawassaga on Lake Huron, 1814
Caption: Captain Arthur Sinclair in command of the 20-gun brig USS NIAGARA and the large schooners USS TIGRESS and USS SCORPION entered Lake Huron and, on 4 August 1814, having failed in an attack on Machilimackinaw, received intelligence that Lieutenant Miller Worsley of the British Navy with the Northwest Company's schooner NANCY was at Nallawassaga under the protection of a blockhouse. Captain Sinclair anchored his vessels within good battering distance of the blockhouse which had just two 24-pounder carronades and 6-pounder mounted. Finding resistance in vain and, just as Lieutenant Worsley had prepared a train to NANCY, one of NIAGARA's shells burst in NANCY and both the blockhouse and vessel were presently blown up and Lieutenant Worsley and his men escaped in their boat up the river.
