Caption: Sunnyvale, California. The Navy's deep submergence rescue vehicle (DSRV) is loaded onto its flatbed trailer for transport to the airfield. The prototype submersible will be airlifted to San Diego for launching on 24 January 1970. It was built by Lockheed Missiles and space Co. and is destined to rescue up to 24 men at a time from disabled subMarines. The small submergible is capable of "mating" with the escape hatch of a downed subMarine and transferring crewmen and is expected to operate at depths down to 5,000 feet. Dated January 1970
