On 25 October 1799, boats from HMS SURPRISE, Captain Edward Hamilton, successfully cut out and captured the former British frigate HERMIONE from the strongly defended harbor of Port Cavallo, Venezuela, where she had been taken by mutineers. This view represents the situation just before the commencement of the attack.
