NH 65410-KN Insignia: USS WAHOO (SS-565)

Insignia: USS WAHOO (SS-565)
Title: Insignia: USS WAHOO (SS-565)
Caption: This insignia, adopted in 1951-1952, was designed by the cartoonist Al Capp, and features his character "Lonesome Polecat." The tradition of the design concept dates back to the first USS WAHOO (SS-238), whose battle flag featured an Indian with a headdress with feathers for each Japanese ship she had sunk. The torpedo-tipped arrow ties the figure to the submarine force. Photographed in 1968.
