Title: Capture of German Submarine U-505
Description: 4 June 1944 U.S. Navy salvage team removes a damaged torpedo from its stowage position on U-505's deck, 9 June 1944. This torpedo was jettisoned overboard. Note the large hole in the end of the torpedo storage tank. Other gear, removed from inside the submarine, is piled on its foredeck. Taken by a USS Guadalcanal (CVE-60) photographer. Official U.S. Navy Photograph, now in the collections of the National Archives.
