S-559-A Naval Historical Foundation Collection

Collection of 7 photos and press releases regarding the National “War Bond” tour of a Japanese Type A Midget Submarine (referred to in the press release as a “two-man suicide submarine”) captured during the December 7, 1941 Pearl Harbor raid. The photos show the submarine and the truck it was transported on in unidentified cities; sightseers examining the submarine (including a close-ups of conning tower and bow); and interior views (with much of the equipment removed). The press releases discuss the submarine itself and the associated problems with its transportation on a flat-bed truck. The photos and press release are undated.
