Most of the images relate to general office duties, public appearances, ceremonies, inspections, speeches, etc. Of particular note are: General Saville, Major General Patch, VADAM Hewitt, SecNav Forrestal and Rear Admiral Lemonnier (of the French Navy) on the bridge of USS Catoctin (ACG-5) during the assault of southern France, 8/14/1944; allied naval commanders of the Mediterranean in a victory celebration in Toulon (RADM Lambert, RADM Lemonnier of the French Navy, ADM Cunningham of the Royal Navy, and VDM Hewitt, commander of the 8th Fleet). Also included are battle images in Toulon, France, August 1944; Eleanor Roosevelt at an unknown event making a speech (ADM Hewitt is in attendance); VJ Day, August 15, 1945 at A.R.C Rainbow Corner, Piccadilly, London; and a 1909 image which in Hewitt in Egypt in front of the Sphinx.


Album #1 was presented to ADM Hewitt following his visit to the city of Piraeus, Greece, April 1946. Images include city scenes, a parade, Hewitt with members of the cities government, and various events.

 

Album #2 is of personal family photos, 1941-1943


Album #3 (disassembled due to cover damage) was created by the Chief of Naval Information as presented on behalf of the Royal Netherlands Navy to ADM Hewitt during his visit to the Twelfth Fleet ships, July 1946. Images include: USS Houston, USS Cone and Glennon, USS Little Rock inside IJmuiden Locks, USS Warrington berthed at Steenen-Hoofd, Amsterdam, visits with officers of Netherlands Navy, leaving the embassy, dinners, giving speeches, etc.
