In the years following World War II, the U.S. Navy faced the challenge of fighting for its own existence as an agency of the armed forces. The people who fought those battles both far afield and in Washington ensured the existence of the U.S. Navy that defended the 38th Parallel in 1950.

The individuals who served both at home and abroad during the Korean conflict clearly demonstrated the importance of the U.S. Navy to the United States government, and its ability to wage war abroad.
