1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Virtual Program - NMUSN Facebook
Technology plays a key role in events throughout history. The interaction of people with that technology can radically change events. During the American Civil War steam engines were the primary power source for many ships. The crew of the Confederate steamer Planter in Charleston Harbor, South Carolina, was comprised of enslaved men who were trained in steam technology. These men used their knowledge to gain their freedom on May 13, 1862, by delivering the Planter to the United States Navy through a daring escape attempt. Tune in to learn about the people who risked their lives to gain freedom and the technology they used to do it.
