80-G-349316:   Okinawa Campaign, Landing, April 1945.    SS Sylvester Pattie, Liberty Ship, was the first large American vessel docked at Okinawa since the April 1st invasion.  It was docked at a new fire proof fuel pier which had just been completed by the 7th Seabees in Buckner Bay, off Katchin Hanto, Okinawa.  Shown:  Navy Seabees in the right foreground were about to secure a line to the three-pile mooring ballard immediately in front of them.  Aft, a similar line was secured to 19-pile dolphin (mooring post) just off the outer end of the pier.  In the background, across the pier from the ship, a pile driver may be seen.  It had finished its final work, for this pier, in driving the piles for the dolphin.  Note USS YTB 229. Photograph released October 22, 1945.
