Stalled and wrecked vehicles of Marines bagged down in soft Volcanic ash on beach of Iwo Jima were targets for Japanese mortermen who fired down from mountain overlooking beach D-Day.  Amtracs and medium tanks of Blue Beach #1.  Some of the 800 ships that took part in the action are in the background.  Photographed February 19, 1945.
