26-G-2556-1:    Sinking of German U-boats, 1944.   German (Type IXC) U-boat, U-550, crewmen abandon ship after she was depth charged, rammed, and shelled by destroyer escorts in the Atlantic.  Note shell holes in her superstructure.  Photographed from USS Joyce (DE 317), which rescued 13 survivors.  Joyce had a Coast Guard crew.    U.S. Coast Guard photograph now in the collections of the National Archives, 26-G-2556 (cropped).
