U.S. Naval Air Station: Porto Corsini, Italy
The U.S. Naval Air Station at Porto Corsini, Italy, was placed in operating status in July 1918 with Lieutenant Wallis B. Haviland in command. Learning of the event, the Austro-Hungarians bombed the station at night but failed to seriously damage the facility. The northeastern Italian station on the Adriatic Sea was disestablished in December 1918.
