U.S. Naval Base Hospital, No.2, Strathpeffer, Scotland

Established in January 1918, the location was selected due to its proximity to the North Sea where sick and wounded sailors could receive treatment.  The Royal Navy also used the facility to treat their servicemen.   The hospital was turned over to British authorities in 1919.   Besides Strathpeffer, the U.S. Navy also established Base Hospital No.3, at Leith, Scotland.   The hospital was located in private residences loaned and equipped by the Scottish Red Cross.
