U.S. Naval Base Hospitals No.1 and No.5, Brest, France

U.S. Naval Base Hospital No.1 was established at Brest, France, in November 1917 and became the first Naval Base Hospital fully equipped for the American Expeditionary Forces.  It was disestablished in 1919.    The second hospital at the location, Naval Base Hospital No.5, was established in December 1917.  The largest of the Navy overseas hospitals, it was located in an old convent.   The hospital remained in operation until March 1919.
