428-GX-K-128592: Mystic (DSRV-1) 1980. Port bow of the nuclear-powered attack submarine at San Diego, California. A Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle (DSRV) simulator is mated to the aftermost hatch of USS Parche (SSN-683). The DSRV, in actual use, would permit crewmen to pass from the Parche into it while submerged. The DSRV could then be uncoupled and move to a disabled submarine to rescue its crew. Photographed by PHC Lewis F. Jones, Jr., July 23, 1980. Official U.S. Navy Photograph, now in the collections of the National Archives. (2017/11/01).
