330-PSA-211-64 (KN 29719):  Operation Sea Orbit, 1964.   A formation of A4 “Sky hawk” jet aircraft flies over nuclear Task Force One, on whose return to the United States on October 3, 1964, concluded a sixty-five day unreplenished world cruise.  The three ships, USS Enterprise (CVAN-65); USS Long Beach (CLGN-9), and USS Bainbridge (DLGN-25), are under the command of Rear Admiral Bernard M. Strean, aboard the 85,000 ton carrier.  The ships made in-port visits in four countries and underway visits to eight others.  The primary purpose of Task Force One’s circumnavigation was to gain knowledge and experience in operating nuclear ships at high speeds for extended periods.  Photograph released October 2, 1964.
