WAVES Training Center: Cedar Falls, Iowa

Opening in late 1942, Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service (WAVES) received Basic Training at the site at Iowa State College, Cedar Falls, Iowa.  It was the U.S. Navy's first WAVES Basic Training or "Boot Camp" facility.   The location was utilized until the Hunter College site in The Bronx, New York City, New York, was established in February 1943.   Following the tranfer of duties, the training center became one of the those in the country that trained the enlisted rating of Yeoman.
