From 1911, when the band first formed, to 1917, when Lt. Cmdr. John Philip Sousa served as Bandmaster, to today's Director, Lt. Patrick Hill, their music represents the pride and professionalism that is synonymous with the United States Navy.

Navy Band Great Lakes performs for hundreds of thousands annually. They provide musical support for communities of all sizes as well as supporting Navy recruiting in a nine-state area of responsibility stretching from Michigan to North Dakota.

Recognized as the best installation in Navy Region Mid-Atlantic in 2016 and 2017, Naval Station Great Lakes has its own police, fire, public works, recreation, social services, food service and many other services on the installation. Over 25,000 service members, family members and civilians live and work onboard the installation every day.
