April: Great Lakes Naval Museum Hosts Kite-Making Activity For Children,

The Great Lakes Naval Museum will be hosting a free kite-making activity for children on Saturday, 5 April 2014 from 1:00-3:00 pm. This event is free and open to the public. Children are encouraged to come and take advantage of the April winds, celebrate national Kite Flying Month and learn about the science behind lift, drag and flight. Participants will also learn to make a simple, durable kite out of household items. All craft supplies will be provided.
May: : Great Lakes Naval Museum Hosts "Ultraviolet Light and You!" Activity for Children,
Saturday, 10 May 2014, 1-3pm.
Learn about ultraviolet (UV) light and how it affects museums and you! This event is free and open to the public. Simple experiments with UV light, filters and sunscreen help children learn about light. Conduct UV filter experiments and make/take home a UV bead bracelet! All supplies will be provided.
June: Battle of Midway Code-breaking Activity For Children,

The Great Lakes Naval Museum will be hosting a free Battle of Midway Code-breaking activity for children on Saturday, 14 June 2014 at 1:00pm. This event is free and open to the public. Children are encouraged to come and learn about the Battle of Midway and the role that cryptology played in securing the American victory. Participants will also learn to make their own secret code. All craft supplies will be provided.
As an official Department of the Navy museum, the Great Lakes Naval Museum's mission is to select, collect, preserve, and interpret the history of the United States Navy with particular emphasis on the Navy's only "boot camp" at Naval Station Great Lakes. Naval Station Great Lakes, the largest military installation in Illinois and the largest training center in the Navy, hosts the Navy's only Recruit Training Command. Each year approximately 38,000 men and women complete the requirements to become enlisted Navy Sailors at the Navy’s only boot camp.
Naval Station Great Lakes is also home to the Navy's technical training schools for surface warfare excellence at Training Support Center Great Lakes. Yearly, more than 15,000 students attend these initial and advanced training schools where they learn the basic skills of their Navy jobs.
