Lieutenant Commander Eric A. Coop was raised in Fairfield, California. He received his commission from the United States Naval Academy in 2001, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science.

LCDR Coop’s first assignment was in USS BRIDGE (AOE10) where he served as the Replenishment at Sea Equipment Officer and Second Division Officer from June 2002 through June 2004. In his second division officer assignment, he served as the Training Officer in USS DENVER (LPD 9) from August 2004 through January 2006.

From February 2006 to August 2008, LCDR Coop served as an instructor at the Surface Warfare Officers School in Newport, Rhode Island.  He earned a Master of Arts Degree in International Relations at Salve Regina University.

From May 2009 through January 2011, LCDR Coop served in
USS DE WERT (FFG 45) Combat Systems Officer.  From February 2011 to December 2012, he served in USS KEARSARGE (LHD 3) as the Training Officer

He reported to his current assignment aboard USS CONSTITUTION in January 2013.

His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with two gold stars, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star, and various unit, campaign and service awards.
