Lineage for VFA-15: Established as VA-67 on 1 August 1968; VA-67 redesignated VA-15 on 2 June 1969 (the second squadron to be assigned the VA-15 designation); VA-15 redesignated VFA-15 on 1 October 1986. (Note: There is no historical connection between the current VFA-15 and the first VA-15 which was disestablished on 1 June 1969. The only similarity between the first VA-15 and VFA-15 is the fact that VFA-15 adopted the use of the insignia that had been used by the first VA-15.)
