Civil War diary of James A. Dickinson who kept a daily account of life as a cabin boy on board USS Tawah from May 1863 to May 1864.
Correspondence of Lieutenant John Garvin who graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and continued his naval career throughout his life. Although he spent most of his life at sea, Garvin taught mathematics at the Academy for a time. These papers are found in the Garvin/Day Families Collection.

Hayes Papers, the heart of the manuscript collections, include Hayes' diaries, his personal and political correspondence, speeches, news clippings, government records, legal notes, business papers, and military records, occupying 170 linear feet. Extending from his school days until his death in 1893, the Hayes Papers offer a reflection of the nineteenth president's public and private life as well as his scholarly interests: politics, the presidency, American and Ohio history, education, prison reform, veterans' interests, genealogy, and literature.
