Wathena II (YTB-825)

An American Indian chief of the Kickapoo tribe who lived on land which is now the site of the city in Doniphan County, Kansas, which now bears his name.

The second Wathena (YTB-825) was laid down on 4 April 1973 at Marinette, Wis., by the Marinette Marine Corp.; launched on 6 September 1973; and delivered to the Navy on 16 October 1973. Placed in service soon thereafter at Norfolk, Va., in the 5th Naval District, Wathena served that district into 1980, providing assistance and towing services in that locale.
