Saccarappa (Id. No. 3828)

1918-1919

The Navy retained the name carried by this vessel at the time of her acquisition.

(Id. No. 3828: displacement 5,735; 1ength 401'; beam 54'; draft 24'5"; speed 12 knots; complement 65)

Saccarappa -- built in 1918 by the American International Shipbuilding Corp., Hog Island, Philadelphia, Pa. -- was taken over, upon her completion, on 31 December 1918 by the United States Shipping Board (USSB) and commissioned for service with the Naval Overseas Transportation Service (NOTS). After the ship, given the identification number (Id. No.) 3828 had been manned by a Naval crew, the USSB requested that she be returned. She was placed out of commission and returned to the Shipping Board on 14 January 1919.
