1967-1998

A Native American tribe of Algonkin stock, which lived northwest of Lake Michigan along the Menominee River. Their descendents now live along the Wolf River in Wisconsin.

II

(YTB‑790; displacement 356 (full load); length 110': beam 31'; draft 14'; speed 12 knots; complement 12; class Natick)

The second Menominee (YTB‑790) was laid down  on 6 September 1966 at Marinette, Wisc., by the Marinette Marine Corp.; launched on 3 April 1967; and placed in service on 10 June 1967.

A large harbor tug, Menominee performed miscellaneous tug and tow services for vessels in the Fifth Naval District, headquartered at Norfolk, Va., into 1971, at which point she was transferred to perform the same duties at the U.S. Naval Station, Mayport, Florida.

Taken out of service, the yard craft was stricken from the Naval Vessel Register on 4 September 1998, and disposed-of through the Defense Reutilization and Marketing Service, purchased by Al Johnson of Cleveland, Ohio, on 27 September 2000. The craft that had served the Navy at Norfolk and Mayport was ultimately abandoned.
