Madokawando (YT-180)

1943-1983

An Abenaki Penobscot grand sachem in Maine (circa 1630-1698)., an ally of France during King William's War.

Madokawando (YT‑180) was laid down by Gibbs Gas Engine Co., Jacksonville, Fla., in August 1942; launched in January 1943; completed on 12 June 1943; and delivered to the Navy for assignment to the First Naval District.

Reclassified YTB‑180 on 15 May 1944, she served much of the remainder of World War II performing harbor towing duties in the Twelfth Naval District. In February 1962 she was reclassified as a medium harbor tug, YTM‑180. 

Ultimately taken out of naval service and stricken from the Naval Vessel Register, the tug was transferred to the U.S. Army on 1 January 1983, she underwent a refit at Marco Drydock and Shpbuilding yard, Seattle, Wash., to prepare her for her deployment to the missile range at Kwajalein.  Susequently, she entered civilian service as Maharlika, in the Republic of the Philippines, serving in that capacity into 2015.
