Capt. Steven L. Bennett (T-AK-4296)

1997–

The first U.S. Navy ship to be named for Capt. Steven Logan Bennett, USAF (22 April 1946-29 June 1972) who was awarded the Medal of Honor, posthumously, for his actions as a forward air controller near Quang Tri City, South Vietnam.

Capt. Steven L. Bennett (T-AK-4296) was built by Samsung Shipbuilding, South Korea in 1984, as Sea Pride; acquired on 21 May 1997 by Military Sealift Command (MSC); renamed Capt. Stephen L. Bennett.

During a visit to Diego Garcia from 12-14 August 2009 Rear Adm. Robert O. Wray, Jr., Deputy Commander, Military Sealift Command, visited the crews of LTC John U.D. Page and Capt. Steven L. Bennett.

On 8 February 2013 Capt. Steven L. Bennett completed operations at the port of Chuk Sa Met, Thailand, delivering cargo for the 3rd Marine Expeditionary Force in support of exercise Cobra Gold 2013.

In March 2013 the container ship delivered Marine Corps cargo from Okinawa to the Philippines in support of exercises Freedom Banner and Balikatan. She offloaded 430 pieces of equipment, including vehicles, containerized equipment, and break-bulk cargo.
