USS Viking (1898-1899)

USS Viking, a 218-ton yacht, was built in 1883 at Chester, Pennsylvania, for private use. Acquired by the Navy in April 1898, she served off the U.S. east coast and off Cuba during the Spanish-American War. Decommissioned for the last time in October 1899, Viking was transferred to the War Department in December of that year.
