USS Valley Forge (CV-45), 1946-1971 --
Third Korean War Deployment, December 1951 - Summer 1952

When Valley Forge returned to Korean waters in late 1951 to begin her third combat tour, the war had stabilized into a "talk and fight" mode. Truce negotiations, begun the previous summer, proceeded in a manner more frustating than fruitful. On the ground and in the air, soldiers, Marines, airmen and sailors fought to maintain a front line bisecting the rugged Korean peninsula and to interdict and destroy beyond that front. In this climate of politically limited objectives and a static military dynamic, Valley Forge's aviators joined other carrier air groups in pounding the enemy's rail and road communications. The always nasty Korean winter gave way to the spring of 1952 as this campaign ground on. Valley Forge left the war zone in mid-year for another period of refit and retraining at home.

This page features images taken during USS Valley Forge's third Korean War deployment, December 1951 - Summer 1952.
