The following photographs are identified as having been taken on board USS Santa Paula (ID # 1590). However, this appears questionable in the case of the first photograph, as the gun shown appears to be mounted at the ship's deck edge rather than on a center line platform. The very large transport USS Leviathan (ID # 1326) had six-inch guns of seemingly identical appearance to the first gun seen below. See Photo # NH 41703 for a view of one such gun.

    Photo #: NH 103315

    USS Santa Paula
    (ID # 1590)

Halftone reproduction of a photograph taken in 1919, showing a six-inch gun identified as being mounted on board the ship.
This image is one of ten photographs published in a "Souvenir Folder" of views concerning USS Santa Paula.
Note: The fitting of a gun of this size seems rather odd for a former cargo ship, which was converted to a troop transport following the end of World War I combat.
