USS Pete, a 29-foot motor patrol boat, was built prior to World War I at Kingston, Massachusetts, as a civilian pleasure craft. Chartered by the Navy in April 1917, she was employed in New England waters until returned to her owner in March 1918.

Hauled out of the water at the Boston Navy Yard, Charlestown, Massachusetts, during World War I.
This motor boat was acquired by the Navy on 28 April 1917 and returned to her owner on 26 March 1918.
The original print is in National Archives' Record Group 19-LCM.
