USS Missouri (BB-63), In Reserve, 1955-1985

This page features views of and on USS Missouri during her thirty years in reserve, from February 1955 until she reentered active service in early 1986.
For all but the last two years of this time, Missouri was moored at Bremerton, Washington, where she became a major attraction for visitors and a shrine to the end of the Second World War. In May 1984, she was towed to the Long Beach Naval Shipyard, California, to be modernized in preparation for recommissioning. Sea trials were held in January 1986 and USS Missouri was recommissioned on 10 May of that year.
