USS Missouri (BB-63) in 1946-49

This page features overall views of USS Missouri taken from 1946 through 1949.

During the four years following World War II, Missouri remained part of the active Navy and was the only battleship still in service by mid-1949. During this time, she took part in regular fleet exercises and made several training cruises with Naval Reservists and U.S. Naval Academy Midshipmen.

Missouri also served in diplomatic roles. In the Spring of 1946, she made an important cruise to Turkey, Greece and other Mediterranean nations to demonstrate United States interest in that area during a time of political turmoil. In September 1947, she steamed to South America to bring President Harry S. Truman home from an inter-American security conference.

Additional 1946-49 overall views of Missouri will be found in the page:
USS Missouri, Gunfire and Gunnery after 1945.
