USS Aquarius (AKA-16), 1943-1946

USS Aquarius, a 14,200-ton Andromeda class attack cargo ship built at Kearny, New Jersey, was commissioned in August 1943 with a U.S. Coast Guard crew. She went to the Pacific a month later and took part in her first mission, the Kwajalein invasion, in January & February 1944. During the next fifteen months, Aquarius was present at the invasions of Guam, Peleliu, Leyte, Lingayen Gulf and Okinawa. In September-December 1945, after a West Coast overhaul, she supported occupation activities in Japan and elsewhere in Asia. USS Aquarius decommissioned in May 1946 and was stricken from the Navy list in November of that year.
