S.S. Texan, an 8615 gross ton freighter, was built at Camden, New Jersey, in 1902 for the American-Hawaiian Steamship Company. After nearly a decade and a half of merchant service, she was acquired by the U.S. Navy in March 1918 and placed in commission as USS Texan (ID # 1354). During the rest of World War I, and the first several months of the post-war era, she was employed as a cargo ship and troop transport. Decommissioned in August 1919, Texan soon resumed her commercial career.
This page features, and provides links to, all the views we have concerning the commercial freighter Texan, which was USS Texan (ID # 1354) in 1918-1919.
