Onward II (American Motor Boat, in service in 1917).
Served as USS Onward II (SP-728) and USS SP-728 in 1917-1918

Onward II, a 60-foot motor pleasure boat, was built prior to World War I at Bay City, Michigan. She was taken over by the Navy in June 1917 and commissioned in that month as USS Onward II (SP-728) for use as a patrol craft. Her name was changed to SP-728 in 1918. In early December 1918, some three weeks after the Armistice, she was returned to her owner.

This page features our only view of the motor pleasure craft Onward II, which was USS Onward II (SP-728) and USS SP-728 in 1917-18.

Onward II (American Motor Boat)

Photographed prior to her World War I Navy service. She was acquired by the Navy on 23 June 1917 and commissioned two days later as USS Onward II (SP-728). Her name was later changed to SP-728. This craft was returned to her owner on 2 December 1918.
