Washington Navy Yard, D.C.
Union troops drilling at the Navy Yard during the Civil War.
View looks about SSE, with the hills on the opposite side of the Anacostia River in the distance. Large building at left is the eastern shiphouse.
At least one published work identifies these troops as the 71st New York (infantry) Regiment.
Civilian steamer in the right center is named James Guy. That at left may be named Powhatan, as letters "atan" can be seen on its paddlebox.
Photographed by the Matthew Brady organization.
