Harold Gonsalves was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor
for "conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity" while serving
as an Acting Scout Sergeant with the Fourth Battalion, Fifteenth Marines,
Sixth Marine Division against the Japanese on Okinawa Shima, Ryukyu Islands, Japan,
15 April 1945.
