USS South Bend (ID # 4019)
Halftone reproduction of a photograph showing a troops' mess hall on board the ship, 1919.
This image was published at that time as one of ten photographs in a "Souvenir Folder" of views of and on board USS South Bend.
This mess hall appears to have been installed on one of the ship's 'tween decks, with a large hatch in its middle. Note the gratings fitted over the hatch, and the tables suspended from the overhead in the background.
Donation of Dr. Mark Kulikowski, 2006.
