Normandy Invasion Preparations, 1944
British Sailors and Marines relax atop a concrete "Phoenix" caisson, 17 March 1944, just after its completion at the Portsmouth Dockyard, England. They are part of the crew of this structure, one of many built for use as breakwaters for the "Mulberry" artificial harbors that were part of the Normandy invasion plan.
