Ships of the Spanish-American War--
Cruisers--USS Cincinnati and USS Raleigh

Cincinnati (Cruiser # 7) and Raleigh (Cruiser # 8) were relatively small protected cruisers completed in 1894. During the Spanish-American War, Cincinnati served in the Caribbean area. Raleigh was assigned to Dewey's Asiatic Squadron, and took part in the Battle of Manila Bay. Both ships remained in active naval service through World War I.

Identification on the original photo of this ship as Marblehead is incorrect. Both stern configuration and details of bow decoration confirm that this cruiser is really Cincinnati.

Photograph copyrighted 1898 by C.H. Graves, Philadelphia, and printed on a stereograph card. Raleigh is painted as she was during, and for several months after, the Spanish-American War.
