Caption: The Soviet Tanker MAXIM GORKI at San Francisco, California, during World War II. The significance of the letters "A.M.O." on her stack and the pennant flying above the bridge are not known. MAXIM GORKI was built for the USSR in Japan in 1937 and named NO. 4 until 1939. She returned to coastal service after the war and was not reported after 1950.
