Great Lakes Naval Museum hosts its annual
Cemetery Tour

October 18, 2014 at 2:00 pm

The Great Lakes Naval Museum will be conducting a free tour of the Naval Station Great Lakes Cemetery beginning at 2:00pm on Saturday, October 18, 2014. Included in this tour will be a visit to the gravesite of Joseph Wallace Gregg, the first recruit to graduate from Naval Station Great Lakes in 1911. The tour, which involves walking and standing, starts at the Great Lakes Naval Museum and will last one to one-and-a-half hours. This tour is open to the public, but registration must be made in advance by contacting (847) 688-3154 or glnm@navy.mil.

Haunted Halloween
October 25, 2014 from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm

This event is free and open to the public. At the celebration, children will have an opportunity to decorate their own sailor's white hat, receive special Halloween treats, and decorate their own mini-pumpkin. At 2:00pm, the Flying Fox Conservation Fund will also be conducting a presentation featuring ten animals including a tarantula and a fruit bat. All children are also encouraged to wear their favorite Halloween costume. Children will learn about the history of scrimshaw and make their own scrimshaw on a bar of soap. This event is free and open to the public. All craft supplies are provided.
