Soda-Straw Rockets Activity

Students will have a chance to learn about rockets and the science behind them, basic scientific principles such as gravity, force, and motion. Students will also build and launch their own Soda-Straw Rocket. This activity is appropriate for all students in grades 4th – 12th. All craft supplies will be provided.

Revolutionary ShipsGreat Lakes Naval Museum will host a lecture by Naval Historian Dr. Michael Crawford.

Dr. Crawford is the editor of "Naval Documents of the American Revolution, Volume 12," and will be presenting and discussing his work. This publication contains the authentic words of actors in the drama of the Revolution, through diaries, letters, petitions, and ships’ logs, as well as muster rolls, orders, official reports, and newspaper accounts. The collection includes American, British, French, and Spanish points of view and gives voice to common seamen, civilians, women, and slaves as well as policy makers, political leaders, and naval and military officers. This event is free and open to the public.

Children are encouraged to come build and color a Naval Aviation-themed dodecahedron (a 12-sided cube) and learn about the role of African-Americans in Naval Aviation.
