Dear Mr. Marshall:

On behalf of the officers of the Naval Historical Foundation I whish to express our thanks to you and Mrs. Furlong for the book History of the Flag by G.H. Preble which you arranged to have delivered to us as an addition to the Late Rear Admiral William R. Furlong's collection that was donated to the Foundation last year.

We appreciate the particular significance of this volume which Admiral Furlong had on board his flagship USS Oglala when it was sunk during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and which he later retrieved and had conserved and rebound.

Sincerely,
D.A. Long
