Sir Indulging a hope that I may profess some small share of your good wishes, I am emboldened to ask a favour at your hands. Having been situated in your store room during the cruise I have been able to acquire a complete knowledge of the duty of Gunner's Yeoman and as I shall probably soon ship again for the service, I shall fall under an infinite obligation to you, sir, for a recommendation for that berth, should you consider me worthy of it. Begging you to pardon the freedom I have taken in thus intruding upon you. I remain Very respectfully Sir Y[ou]r mo[st] ob[edient] servant Charles Mayo December 26th 1829 |
